Disco Dancing With Rita Hayworth, Fred Astaire, Gene Kelly

Disco Dancing with Rita Hayworth, Fred Astaire & Gene KellyI love to dance. And, having been a disc jockey and a disco dance instructor at a discotheque – back in “the day” – I openly admit it, I love disco. When I mention that, most often people look at me like I’m crazy or they make negative remarks about disco music.

Next time someone laughs off disco dancing, I’m going to show them this video. It’s fabulous and shows disco is timeless.

Most of the people you’ll see dancing here were deceased before the Bee Gees recorded “Stayin’ Alive.” Whether you are a Bee Gees’ or Rita Hayworth fan or not…you are going to enjoy this!

My faves are Gene Kelly & Fred Astaire, but you’ll see Frank Sinatra, Phil Silvers and others having fun dancing. Plus, it’s amazing to watch how the various clips are synchronized with the music – someone spent a lot of time splicing this together. Very creative!

Nine 9 times out of 10, when I’m somewhere and they play disco music, just about EVERYONE gets up to dance. They smile, they laugh and they have a great time. It’s fun, it’s uplifting and just makes you feel good.

Now, what does this have to with marketing and copywriting you might ask? Well, I thought about how to answer that question and decided, rather than try to be clever and come up with an analogy, I just wanted to share something fun and inspirational with you on this Labor Day holiday.

What do you think? If you have an analogy you’d like to share, I value your feedback. So, please post your comments below. I’d love to hear from you. Thanks!

  1. Hello Debra,

Thanks for the post – it made me smile and think happy thoughts 🙂 I went dancing on Friday night, it was so much fun. My style of dancing definitely isn’t Gene Kelly or Fred Astaire, but it’s me…and I love how I feel when I dance.

I’ve always thought my husband and I should take dancing lessons, but haven’t actually done it. Now I’m thinking about it more seriously….it’s on my bucket list!

    Stay true to you,
    Laurie

    • Laurie, I don’t dance like Gene Kelly, Fred Astaire or Rita Hayworth, but certainly love watching them. And, like you, I love how it feels when I dance. It’s just plain FUN.
I think you should definitely get out there with your hubby and take lessons. It’s not only a good time and good exercise, but is a great idea for couples – gets you out there working on something together that you can then enjoy over and over again.
      Thanks for sharing.

  2. It’s funny, when I think of disco, I do think of the Bee Gees and John Travolta!

My hubby and I witnessed a different type of infectious music last Friday night, when his youngest brother’s band played various genres and eras of music at a local pub, and had different people of various ages get up to dance.

    • K. Lee, I think the Bee Gees and John Travolta are synonymous with disco.
I was at a festival yesterday and also experienced various genres & eras. There was salsa, Motown and a tribute to the B52s. Everybody was dancing. It’s all FUN!
      🙂

  3. I haven’t been dancing in so long. This was a great video. Thanks for sharing 🙂

    • Glad you liked the video Michelle. I couldn’t “not” share it, it’s so uplifting.
Hope you’re inspired to put your dancing shoes on and go out & boogie!

  4. I love disco too! 🙂

I also agree with you 100%. I myself have noticed that whenever I write with passion and love on a topic, it seems to be most read, when I do a workshop with passion and love the feedback is good and more referrals for the next one. In essence, when one does something that they enjoy, it shows and the Universe rewards one amply by attracting others who share the joy!
